Gardens can have a powerful impact on the emotions of passers-by. A lush, healthy garden filled with color can invoke hope, joy, and even energy; whereas a dead garden or one filled with weeds can do just the opposite. Gardens can also be places of healing, meditation, or simply peace during a hectic day. Help the Church of St. Mary to be surrounded by gardens that stimulate the senses. Gardens that attract people by their sights and fragrances may encourage people to stop and enjoy, perhaps drawing them in a bit farther each time.
It is said that gardening is therapeutic - come see for yourself. Parish volunteers are essential to the health of the landscaped areas. Volunteers are needed for weeding, planting, and raking throughout the spring, summer, and fall seasons. Experience is not needed, but plants respond well to a smile.
In addition to ongoing garden care, there are also two planned cleanup weekends: one in the spring and one in the fall. Watch the website and/or bulletin for dates, times, and contact information. We are always looking for volunteers to tend to the gardens, as it is a large undertaking. The individuals who currently volunteer to tend the seasonal gardens do so at their convenience.
